Natalie Mai Hall started taking piano lessons when she was a little girl. At the age of 10 Hall picked up the cello and began taking weekly lessons, weekly chamber music, and participating in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras. Hall was accepted to the University of Washington School of Music with scholarship and continued to study classical cello performance under Toby Saks. She was a member of the University of Washington String Quartet, under the direction of Melia Watras. After attending the Cafe Racer’s Racer Sessions, Hall in love with free improvisation and joined the UW Modern Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Cuong Vu.
